Now through March 7, 2010 at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston Echos of Heian Kyo is on display. These works of art helped make Japanese history and literature common to all Japanese people rather than an idle curiosity of the aristocracy. Take a look back in time to the ancient Japanese capital Kyoto as viewed by Japanese artists.
On display are prints, book illustrations, and paintings that depict a comparison of the commoners of early modern Edo to the lords and ladies of ancient Heian-kyō. This exhibition is the third in a series commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the sister city relationship between Boston and Kyoto.
