Holiday Craft Fairs 2009

SoWa

When holiday shopping takes on the monotonous drone of crowded malls, sold out stores, and boring gifts, get out of the rut with an entirely different approach to buying presents.  You can shop locally and affordably while still finding unique gifts all over the Boston area as craft and gift shows pop up just for the season. With thousands of artisans, ideas are limitless, and the fairs often boast more than just retail space, with food and tastings galore.   Here are our picks for a headache-free, festive experience:

Saturday, 12/5  10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – The Annual Holiday Artisan & Crafter Expo – Shop in good conscience, as the $3 admission fee ($2 pre-ordered) goes toward the Pine Street Inn’s mission to eliminate homelessness.  Pick up some hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind gifts from the select group of artisans.

Sunday, 12/6  10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Cambridge’s Design Hive hosts the Handmade Holidaze event – Groove to the beat as a live DJ spins a mix of holiday classics, while browsing through the wares of over 60 designers at this hybrid of collective retail and urban street market.

Saturday, 12/12 & Sunday, 12/13   10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. – The SoWa Holiday Open Market – Summer’s favorite market is back with a holiday twist.  The artists and designers are a juried selection from around New England, showing an array of goods, such as handbags, silk-screened t-shirts, and re-purposed wool accessories.
