Perhaps most famous for his lines, “The British are coming! The British are coming,” Paul Revere was a night messenger in the battles of Lexington and Concord. On April 18, 1775, Revere took a midnight ride to warn the American troops that the British army was moving across the Charles River and towards Lexington. The ensuing battles sparked the start of the American Revolutionary War. Today, Boston visitors can walk the Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads to sixteen nationally significant historic sites, such as museums and meeting houses that were all important to the victory of the Revolutionary War. The Freedom Trail also boasts a statue crafted in Paul Revere’s honor. The statue was made by American sculptor Cyrus Dallin in 1940 and is located in the North End of Boston.
