Bostonians eat more ice cream per capita than folks in any another city in America. I guess that gives us a good reason for the plethora of ice cream parlors spread throughout the city. But with so many choices, where to go? Here’s a rundown of where to grab the hottest frozen treat before summer winds down!
Christina’s Homemade Ice Cream
Boasting traditional flavors, including three kinds of vanilla, as well as more adventurous ones, like Carrot Cake and Herbal Chai Spice, this local Cambridge hangout is not to be missed! Step inside for a complete list of this season’s flavors, try a cannnoli filled with ginger molasses ice cream, or order a local favorite- a homemade waffle cone topped with two scoops of their burnt sugar ice cream.
J.P. Licks
With eight locations scattered in and around Boston, J.P. Licks is a Boston classic. Serving up an ever-changing menu of homemade ice creams as well as lactose free varieties, sorbet, sherbet, hard yogurt and non-fat soft serve, there’s sure to be something for everyone here! Their peanut butter soft serve and oatmeal cookie hard yogurt are safe bets for all.
Toscanini’s Ice Cream
Located at the MIT end of Central Square, Toscanini’s was voted “Best Ice Cream in the World” by a New York Times review and its vanilla was voted “Best in America” by People magazine. And, if that’s not enough to lure you in, the endless variety of homemade ice creams, sorbets and yogurts offered at this hip ice cream-coffee shop hybrid should be. Will it be Altoid Peppermint Chip, Cocoa Pudding or Grape Nut today?
BoYo
BoYo, or Boston Yogurt, is Boston’s newest joint offering up non-fat, natural frozen yogurt, packed with all kinds of good stuff like protein, calcium and probiotics. With at least three flavors and tons of fresh fruit and dry toppings available daily, this refreshing and tangy, yet creamy treat, is perfect for both the health conscious and not!
Jennifer’s Frosty
Jennifer’s Frosty has been a Boston Common legend since 1990. Hearing the jingle of this old-fashioned ice cream truck, decorated with a Red Sox flag and a “Make Way for Ducklings” painting, is sure to bring about some serious ice cream cravings. Be sure to stop by Jennifer’s Frosty on the corner of Arlington and Boylston streets for a “double-header” cone- half chocolate, half vanilla- before strolling through the Boston Common or taking the kids on the Swan Boats.
