Ted’s Tips – Weekly wedding insights from Westin’s wedding planner Ted Daniels…
“First things first – for the bridesmaids’ dresses, think fun!!
The current trend is for knee length or tea length dresses. Long, formal dresses are out of style and can be cumbersome.
Shorter length dresses allow your gals to have more fun and to not worry about stepping on their dress or about picking up the dress when going up stairs, not to mention if the weather is inclement. Plus, if the day is warm, your girls would be thrilled to have their legs breathe fresh air.
While picking out your bridesmaids’ dress may be fun, I have also seen the bride choose a specific fabric, but leave the style of the dress up to each bridesmaid. Also, allowing them to pick a dress of their choice, while not straying from a certain color palate, allows them to feel comfortable, look good (not as good as the bride) and to be able to wear the dress again.
Let the girls have fun with the shoes – tell the bridesmaids the color and let them decide if they want to wear sandals or pumps. As a great gift idea shoes or jewelry could be given by the bride for being in the wedding.”

Ted’s Tips – Weekly wedding insights from Westin’s wedding planner Ted Daniels…
“I think that black suits instead of tuxedos are a great way to go for several reasons.
Every gentleman needs a black suit, they will have had it will be fitted to them and they will have it to wear again.
Wearing suits in warm weather is a plus as most suits are made with light weight fabric compared to a tuxedo, allowing the gentleman to be more comfortable and perhaps even keep there jackets on through dinner.
The men can wear their own dress shoes which will go well with a suit and will be comfortably broken in, rather than wearing an uncomfortable pair of rented shoes with a tuxedo.
A great gift idea for the groomsmen is a white shirt and color coordinated tie to match or to compliment the colors of the wedding. They can wear the shirt and tie with their suit. I have found that grooms are always lost as to what to get groomsmen and from experience gifts are often not used. Giving them the combination shirt and tie will ensure that the groom’s gifts are used, and that the groomsmen look great.”
